CAN-AM BAKER DOUBLES

 

Kenneth Rogers of Southfield and Mason Brantley of Detroit teamed up to win the Can-Am Baker Doubles tournament at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park in early November and Rich Rathburn of Roseville and Jason Neiman of Warren won the late November event at Sunnybrook Lanes in Sterling Heights.

 

In the event at Thunderbowl the Rogers-Brantley duo beat Jeff Goergen of Eastpointe and Mike Lee of Dearborn Heights 227-181 in the final match to claim the top prize of $1,000. Goergen and Lee split $500 as the runners-up.

 

The Rogers-Brantley team qualified second with an eight-game total of 1,783 including a high game of 259. In the cutdown rounds they shot games of 192, 238, 204, 219, 267 and 216 to advance to the championship match.

 

The Goergen-Lee team qualified third with 1,728. Their cutdown round scores of 243, 227, 249, 247, 226 and 247 moved them to the finals.

 

The only other Oakland County cashing team was Lee Snow of Wixom and Terry Mariucci of Canton who split $180.

 

In the late November event Rich Rathburn of Roseville and Jason Neiman of Warren teamed up to beat Ken Wyatt of Sterling Heights and Jim Lauricella of Sterling Heights 279-205 to claim the first place check of $1,200. Wyatt-Lauricella took home $600.

 

 

The Rathburn/Neiman team qualified second with 1,811 and advanced with cutdown games of 245, 248, 199, 219, 267 and 220.

 

The Wyatt-Lauricella duo was the top qualifier with 1,848 and a Baker 300 game. In the succeeding rounds they bowled games of 219, 233, 204, 238, 215 and 206 to move to the championship match.

 

Ed Smith of Ferndale and Derek Brame of Hazel Park split $250; and Tom Byrd of Clinton Township and Anthony Catennacci of Oxford split $120 as the Oakland County high finishers.

 

The next Can-Am Baker Doubles event will be Dec. 27 at Wayne Bowl in Wayne .
