MDUSBC NAMES ALL-CITY TEAMS

 

The Metro Detroit USBC Association (MDUSBC) has named their All City teams for the 2007-08 season.

 

Ryan Briguglio of Clinton Township and Kristy King of Sterling Heights are captains of the men’s and women’s teams respectively. Briguglio earned the honors for the first time in his career.

 

Briguglio was a runaway winner as he earned 99½ points from his second place finish in the MDUSBC Doubles with Timothy Mayer, third place finish in MDUSBC All-Events, first place finish in the Michigan State Doubles with William Daniels and tying for first place among MDUSBC bowlers for Michigan State All-Events. Additionally he had two 300 games, one 299 game, three 800 series with 846 high and a high average of 221.

 

Rounding out the men’s first team are Michael Calhoun of Wyandotte with 75 points, David Ewald of Macomb (72), Stephen Barry of Macomb (67) and Travis Franz of Waterford Township (63). Calhoun and Barry are appearing for the first time, while the others are veterans of the honors team.

 

Calhoun earned points with finishes in the MDUSBC Masters, Doubles and All-Events. He also recorded six 300 games, one 299 game, five 800 series with 833 high and a high average of 230.

 

Ewald making his eighth appearance finished third in the MDUSBC Masters, sixth in MDUSBC Doubles with Jay Lang and fourth in MDUSBC All-Events. Three 300 games, one 299 game, one 298 game, two 800 series with a high of 824 and a high average of 236 rounded out his record.

 

Barry finished first in MDUSBC All-Events, third in MDUSBC Singles and fourth in MDUSBC Doubles with George Lee. He recorded a high average of 230, two 300 games and two 800 series with a high of 816.

 

Franz earned his third nod on the strength of an eighth place finish in the MDUSBC Masters, 10th place finish from MDUSBC in the Michigan State Doubles with Floyd Speer, one 300 game, three 299 games, five 800 series with 836 high and a high average of 241.

 

Marcus Giles III of Madison Heights (62½), Jeffrey Austreng of Waterford Township (62), Paul Koehler of Roseville (60), John Masiello of Southgate (58) and Michael Busch of Waterford Township (57) were named to the second team men’s All-City. Newcomers Giles, Koehler and Masiello join veterans Austreng and Busch.

 

Kristy King of Sterling Heights , who tallied 73 points, was fourth in MDUSBC Doubles in Michelle Ewald, fifth in MDUSBC All-Events, third overall in Michigan State Doubles with Michelle Ewald, sixth from MDUSBC in Michigan State All-Events, third from MDUSBC in USBC Doubles with Melissa Klug, fourth from MDUSBC in USBC Singles and fourth from MDUSBC in USBC All-Events. She also had a high average of 210 and a high series of 745 in her second career honors team appearance.

 

Nicole Idziak-Owsley of Washington (70), Michelle Ewald of Clinton Township (65), Novella Daniels of Harper Woods (64) and Teri White of St. Clair Shores (53½) joined King on the women’s first team.

 

Idziak-Owsley finished fourth in MDUSBC Doubles with Jennifer Bator, seventh in MDUSBC All-Events, second overall in Michigan State Singles, sixth from MDUSBC in Michigan State All-Events, third from MDUSBC in USBC All-Events, had a high game of 279, high series of 759 and high average of 215.

 

Ewald was fourth from MDUSBC in Michigan State Queens, fourth in MDUSBC Doubles with Kristy King, third overall in Michigan State Doubles with Kristy King and 10th from MDUSBC in Michigan State All-Events. She shot two 300 games, a high series of 801 and a high average of 214 in making her eighth appearance.

 

Daniels makes a fourth appearance and first since 2000 on the strength of winning the MDUSBC Queens, 10th in MDUSBC Doubles with Jennifer Churchill, third from MDUSBC in Michigan State All-Events and second place among MDUSBC bowlers in USBC Singles. She recorded a high series of 806 and a high average of 223.

 

White tied for first in MDUSBC Singles, had one 300 game, three 279 games, high series of 812 and 802 and a high average of 222 in making her second appearance.

 

Erica Ewald of Rochester Hills (52), Jennifer Heyman of Macomb (52), Jennifer Bator of Eastpointe (50), Susan Szachta of Warren (39) and Aleta Sill of Livonia (38) rounded out the second team. Ewald is making her third appearance, Heyman, Bator and Szachta for the second time each and Sill for a record 13th time.

 

Points are tabulated on performance in the local, state and national tournaments; honor scores and league averages.

 

The Metro Detroit USBC Association is the largest local association of the United States Bowling Congress with over 70,000 adult and youth members.
