MDUSBC SUPER SENIOR MASTERS

 

Doug Evans of Clinton Township won the MDUSBC Super Senior Masters title and the top prize of $1,000 at Sterling Lanes in Sterling Heights with a 234-182 triumph over Edward Dudek of Livonia . Dudek settled for $500.

 

Evans qualified 14th with a five-game total of 1,018. He remained in the winner’s bracket with victories over Kenneth Voodre of Troy 245-184, Richard Grange of Clinton Township 190-142, Ron LeChevalier of Livonia 215-205 and James Burton of Novi 265-232 awaiting a challenger from the loser’s bracket. Once Dudek emerged, Dudek beat Evans 213-184 to force a final match. In the final match Evans left no doubt with the 234-182 win. Evans averaged 213.7 for the 11 games of competition.

 

Dudek qualified 13th with 1,026 and proceeded to beat Leonard Cianciolo of Warren 220-163 and Larry Dembek of Center Line 199-186 before falling to James Burton 218-201. Once in the loser’s bracket Dudek beat Fred McClain of Allen Park 203-190, Ron LeChevalier 210-184 and avenged his earlier loss to Burton 204-201. This advanced Dudek to the championship match against Evans. Dudek averaged 204.5 for 13 games.

 

Burton finished third for $400 and LeChevalier fourth for $300.

 

Burton, the defending MDUSBC Senior Masters champion, qualified 16th in the final match play position with 1,015 and averaged 214.3 for the event. He remained alive in the winner’s bracket by beating top qualifier John Bennett of Clarkston 228-190, Larry Martinez of Waterford Township 251-173, Dudek 216-201 before falling to Evans 265-232. He then lost in the loser’s bracket to Dudek 204-201 to get knocked out of the tournament.

 

LeChevalier qualified second with 1,098 and averaged a tournament high 218.7 for 10 tournament games. In match play he beat Norman Runson of Warren 236-138, Fred McClain 264-146 before falling to Evans 215-205. In the loser’s bracket he beat Larry Dembek 200-163 before falling to Dudek 210-184 to finish his day.

 

John Bennett led the field of 73 with a five-game total of 1,183, 85 pins higher than the second qualifier. In match play he lost to Burton 228-190, beat Chuck Sunseri of Auburn Hills 255-194 before being knocked out by McClain 248-187.

 

Donald Clifford of Clinton Township won the special competition to non-qualifiers over the age of 70 with a 188-150 win over Robert Arnold of Clinton Township . Clifford took home $175 and Arnold $150 for their efforts.

 

Other Oakland County cashers were Joseph Fitzsimmons of Waterford Township for $225, John Bennett of Clarkston $200, Larry Martinez of Waterford Township $200, Kenneth Voodre of Troy $175, Chuck Sunseri of Auburn Hills $175, Howard Waxer of Farmington Hills $100 and Ed Grant of Rochester Hills $100.
