MDUSBC JUNIOR MASTERS

 

Paul Benedict of Wyandotte prevailed in the boy’s division and Aleksandra Hudak of Taylor won the girl’s division of the Metro Detroit USBC Association Junior Masters at Mayflower Lanes in Redford .

 

Benedict defeated Michael Magyar of Oxford 208-196 to win the boy’s division and claim the top scholarship prize of $350. Magyar won a $200 scholarship.

 

Hudak beat Brianne Schmansky of Westland 193-179 to win the girl’s division. She won a $250 scholarship. Schmansky settled for a $150 scholarship.

 

Benedict was the top qualifier among the boys with a six-game total of 1,220. Magyar was fifth with 1,135.

 

The boy’s stepladder finals began with Magyar beating defending champion Michael VanPeeren of Wyandotte 184-167. Magyar then beat Jerome Penxa II of Romeo 210-155 and Huey Herron Jr. of Bloomfield 185-183 to advance to the championship match. Herron Jr. earned a $150 scholarship, Penxa II $125 and VanPeeren $100.

 

The girl’s stepladder finals kicked off with Heather Krueger of Chesterfield beating Fateah Boyd of Detroit 165-161. Schmansky then beat Krueger 206-168 en route to the finals. Krueger earned a $125 scholarship and Boyd $100.

 

Two other girls earned scholarships including Josephine Bashara of Livonia for $75 and Chelsea Castle of Waterford Township for $50.

 

Seven other boys took home $50 scholarships. They were T.J. Centers of Livonia , Daniel Pollak of Macomb , Daniel Jordan of Livonia , Scott Kujawa of Dearborn , Trevor Smith of Howell, Matthew Papais of Sterling Heights and Nicholas Block of St. Clair Shores .

 

Heather Krueger, Huey Herron Jr. and Jerome Penxa II each earned spots into the national finals of the USBC Junior Gold in July 2009 in Indianapolis .

MDUSBC SUPER SENIOR MASTERS

 

The Metro Detroit USBC Association (MDUSBC) will host the Super Senior Masters on Nov. 1-2 at Sterling Lanes in Sterling Heights .

 

Any member of the MDUSBC who is at least 60 years of age as of Nov. 1 is eligible for the scratch event.

 

Qualifying will be contested on Nov. 1 with each bowler bowling a five-game qualifier. There will be two squads of qualifying.

 

Match play will be on Nov. 2 in a single-game double-elimination format.

 

A separate special event for non-qualifiers 70 years and older will be conducted on Nov. 2.

 

First place will pay $1,000 based on 64 entries with 16th place paying $100.

 

The entry fee cost is $100 per bowler.

 

Some notable entrants already entered are defending champion John Ross Jr. of Vassar, 1974, 1980 and 1981 Masters champion Dick Beattie of Dearborn, 1977 Masters and 2004 Senior Masters champion John Bennett of Clarkston and 1996 and 2002 Senior Masters champion Harley Trumbull Jr. of New Boston .

 

The event is sponsored by Turbo 2-N-1 Grips, Turbo Tech and Eastown Printing.

BVL FUNDRAISER

 

The Metro Detroit USBC Association (MDUSBC) will host a fundraiser in support of the Bowlers to Veterans Link (BVL) on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. at Sunnybrook Lanes in Sterling Heights and Parkway Lanes in Trenton .

 

The cost is $20 for three games of no-tap includes pizza, door prizes and mystery games. There will be 50/50 drawings and silent auctions.

 

Businesses can get involved as lane sponsors as can leagues.

 

In the last year’s over $4,760 was raised in the one-squad event.

 

BVL is a national nonprofit charitable organization which raises about $1 million annually to fund a variety of recreational equipment and therapeutic supplies for America ’s veterans.
