SENIOR ALL CITY TEAMS

 

The Metro Detroit USBC Association (MDUSBC) has named their Senior All City teams for the 2008-09 season.

 

The teams include senior men’s and senior women’s teams based on tournament and league performance from June 1, 2008 through May 31, 2009. A complete list of criteria is available upon request.

 

David Tulak of Taylor and Debra Dickerson of Detroit are captains of the senior men’s and senior women’s teams respectively. Dickerson gained the prestigious nod for the first time in her career.

 

Captaining the senior men’s All-City team is David Tulak of Taylor with 74 points. He is appearing for the first time on the senior team with a 25th place finish in the MDUSBC Masters, first among MDUSBC seniors and third overall in the Michigan State Singles and first among MDUSBC seniors in the Michigan State All-Events. He also shot three 300 games, one 298 game, two 800 series with an 806 high and a high average of 222. He has earned all-city five times before becoming a senior.

 

The senior men’s first team was completed with Mitchell Jabczenski Sr. of Novi (70), Douglas Evans of Southgate (70), Lawrence Richardson of Southfield (61) and Larry Walker of Garden City (61). Veterans Evans for the seventh time, Jabczenski for the sixth time and Walker for the second time join newcomer Richardson.

 

Jabczenski won the inaugural Michigan State Senior Masters, was third among MDUSBC seniors in the Michigan State Doubles with Fred McClain and first among MDUSBC seniors in the Michigan State All-Events. Three 300 games, a high series of 805 and a high average of 226 completed his resume.

 

Evans was fourth in the MDUSBC Senior Masters, eighth among seniors in the MDUSBC Doubles with Steve Barry, second among seniors in the MDUSBC Singles and first among seniors in the MDUSBC All-Events. He had two 300 games, a high series of 811 and a high average of 230. He also won the MDUSBC Super Senior Masters in November to become the only bowler to win the MDUSBC Masters, Senior Masters and Super Senior Masters. There were no points achieved for the Super Senior Masters.

 

Richardson was second in the MDUSBC All-Events among seniors, fourth among MDUSBC seniors in the Michigan State Doubles with Korian Dye and fourth among MDUSBC seniors in the Michigan State All-Events. Four 300 games, a high series of 837 and a high average of 218 complete his body of work.

 

Walker won the MDUSBC Senior Masters and was fifth among MDUSBC seniors in the Michigan State Senior Masters. He had two 300 games, two 299 games and a high average of 227.

 

Steven Stewart of Detroit (52), Bobbie Christian of Detroit (51), David Eatmon of Ferndale (49), Ronald Forton of St. Clair Shores (49) and Edwin Austreng of Waterford Township (45) rounded out the senior men’s second team. Austreng is making his third appearance and Eatmon and Forton their second. Stewart and Christian are rookies.

 

Debra Dickerson of Detroit , with 57 points, is the captain of the senior women’s All-City team. She was second in the MDUSB Senior Queens, fifth in the MDUSBC Queens, sixth among seniors in the MDUSBC Singles, second among seniors in the MDUSBC All-Events and second among MDUSBC seniors in the Michigan State All-Events. Two 290 games, a high series of 743 and four other 700 series and a high average of 206 finished her accomplishments.

 

Gwendolyn Finley of Detroit (52½), Ricki Schneider of Detroit (49), Yvonne Ogburn of Detroit (44) and Virginia Austin of Detroit (41) completed the senior women’s first team. Finley and Ogburn were named for the third time, while Austin and Schneider are appearing for the second time.

 

Finley was fourth in the MDUSBC Senior Queens, sixth among seniors in the MDUSBC Doubles with Shaquonda Bembow-Board, second among seniors in the MDUSBC Singles, fourth among seniors in the MDUSBC All-Events, tied for sixth among MDUSBC seniors in the Michigan State Doubles with Lesley Tucker and first among MDUSBC seniors in the Michigan State All-Events. She also had a top average of 204.

 

Schneider was first among seniors in the MDUSBC Doubles with Breena Schneider, fifth among seniors in the MDUSBC Singles and first among seniors in the MDUSBC All-Events. She had one 300 game, a high series of 769, two other series over 700 and a high average of 207.

 

Ogburn was second among seniors in the MDUSBC Doubles with Queenie Noble, fourth among MDUSBC seniors in the Michigan State All-Events, recorded one 300 game, one 299 game, high series of 737, two other series over 700 and a high average of 224.

 

Austin was ninth among seniors in the MDUSBC Singles, fifth among seniors in the MDUSBC All-Events, had four 300 games, one 299 game, one 290 game, high series of 792, two other series over 700 and a high average of 218.

 

Susan Szachta of Warren (38), Melinda Hylton of Taylor (24), Carol Davis of Lake Orion (23), Jeanesta Fossett of Livonia (20) and Karen Whitmore of Detroit (20) achieved senior women’s second team status. Szachta and Davis earned their third nod, Fossett her second while Hylton and Whitmore were making their initial appearance.

 

Points are tabulated on performance in the local, state and national tournaments; honor scores and league averages.
