ALL CITY TEAM

 

The Metro Detroit USBC Association (MDUSBC) has named their All-City teams for the 2008-09 season.

 

The teams include men’s, women’s, senior men’s and senior women’s teams based on tournament and league performance from June 1, 2008 through May 31, 2009. A complete list of criteria is available at www.mdusbc.com.

 

This week is the men’s and women’s All-City team.

 

Jerome Penxa Jr. of Romeo was named captain of the men’s All-City team. He earned 82½ points from his second place finish in the MDUSBC Doubles with Mark Runson, tying for seventh place in MDUSBC Singles, third from MDUSBC in Michigan State Singles and third from MDUSBC in Michigan State All-Events. Also he had three 300 games, one 299 game, three 800 series including a 807 high and a high average of 232. This was his fifth appearance on the team.

 

Rounding out the men’s first team are Jeffrey Austreng of Waterford Township (80), Paul Koehler of Roseville (78), Craig Nidiffer of Trenton (67½) and Jay Lang of Sterling Heights (67½). Nidiffer is making his first appearance on the prestigious team.

 

Austreng was the top finisher from MDUSBC and finished third in the Michigan State Masters. He recorded a high average of 241, posted four 300 games, two 299 games and six 800 series including a high of 857. This was his fifth all-city nod.

 

Koehler won the MDUSBC Masters, had four 300 games, three 299 games, four 800 series with a 846 high and a high average of 234. This was his second consecutive all-city selection.

 

Nidiffer finished eighth in the MDUSBC Masters, was fifth from MDUSBC in the Michigan State Masters and tied for seventh from MDUSBC in the Michigan State Singles. In addition to his high average of 234 he recorded six 300 games, one 299 game and one 298 game and four 800 series including a high of 827.

 

Lang is making his fourth appearance on the team. He finished 13th in the MDUSBC Masters, tied for eighth in the MDUSBC Doubles with Kurt Pilon, was ninth from MDUSBC in Michigan State Doubles with Pilon, had five 300 games, one 299 game, six 800 series with a 837 high and a high average of 241.

 

Kurt Pilon of Warren (67), David Tulak of Taylor (65), Nicholas Wissinger IV of Utica (63), Duane Henderson of Detroit (63) and Randy Warnken of Clinton Township (61) were named to the second team men’s All-City. Newcomers Henderson and Warnken join veterans Pilon, Tulak and Wissinger.

 

Pacing the women’s All-City team is Christine Bator of Warren, who tallied 105 points, was sixth in MDUSBC All-Events, third from MDUSBC and third overall in the Michigan State Doubles with Michelle Kubiak, was third from MDUSBC and third overall in the Michigan State Singles, was second from MDUSBC and second overall in the Michigan State All-Events. She also stands first from MDUSBC in USBC Doubles with Nicole Idziak-Owsley and first from MDUSBC in USBC All-Events. Her high games were 299 and 289, a high series of 807 and five other series over 700 and a high average of 208. This was her first year of adult competition and is a member of Junior Team USA .

 

Nicole Idziak-Owsley of Washington (95½), Jennifer Bator of Eastpointe (77½), Christina Howard of Detroit (72) and Kimberly Maddy of Utica (67) join Christine Bator on the women’s first team.

 

Idziak-Owsley finished fourth in MDUSBC Queens, tied for 10th in MDUSBC Singles, was second from MDUSBC and second overall in Michigan State Doubles with Jennifer Bator, fourth from MDUSBC in Michigan State All-Events and first from MDUSBC in USBC Doubles with Christine Bator. She had three 300 games and one 289 game, a high series of 757 and 12 other series over 700 and a high average of 220 in making her fifth appearance.

 

Jennifer Bator was third in MDUSBC Queens, tied for eighth in MDUSBC All-Events, second from MDUSBC and second overall in Michigan State Doubles with Nicole Idziak-Owsley, ninth from MDUSBC in Michigan State All-Events, three 300 games, one 296 game and two 279 games, a high series of 772 and 11 other series over 700 and a high average of 220. She made the team for the third consecutive year.

 

Howard won the Michigan State Singles and the Michigan State All-Events. Additionally she had one 300 game, two 299 games, a high series of 768 and two other 700 series and a high average of 208 in making her second appearance.

 

Maddy, making her rookie appearance, finished fifth in MDUSBC Doubles with Nicole Aleo, second in MDUSBC Singles and fifth in MDUSBC All-Events. She had high games of 300, 299, 297, 290, 289 and 280, high series of 827, 11 other series over 700 and a high average of 219.

 

Michelle Ewald of Clinton Township (63), Angela Wilt of Westland (54), Dawn Polomski of Utica (54), Melissa Klug of Warren (53) and Erin Williams of Detroit (52) round out the second team women’s All-City. Ewald is making her ninth appearance, Wilt her sixth and the others getting their inaugural nod.

 

Next week will be the senior men’s and senior women’s All-City team.
