ALL CITY TEAM

 

The Metro Detroit USBC Association (MDUSBC) has named their All-City teams for the 2008-09 season.

 

The teams include men’s, women’s, senior men’s and senior women’s teams based on tournament and league performance from June 1, 2008 through May 31, 2009. A complete list of criteria is available at www.mdusbc.com.

 

This week is the men’s All-City team.

 

Jerome Penxa Jr. of Romeo was named captain of the men’s All-City team. He earned 82½ points from his second place finish in the MDUSBC Doubles with Mark Runson, tying for seventh place in MDUSBC Singles, third from MDUSBC in Michigan State Singles and third from MDUSBC in Michigan State All-Events. Also he had three 300 games, one 299 game, three 800 series including a 807 high and a high average of 232. This was his fifth appearance on the team.

 

Rounding out the men’s first team are Jeffrey Austreng of Waterford Township (80), Paul Koehler of Roseville (78), Craig Nidiffer of Trenton (67½) and Jay Lang of Sterling Heights (67½). Nidiffer is making his first appearance on the prestigious team.

 

Austreng was the top finisher from MDUSBC and finished third in the Michigan State Masters. He recorded a high average of 241, posted four 300 games, two 299 games and six 800 series including a high of 857. This was his fifth all-city nod.

 

Koehler won the MDUSBC Masters, had four 300 games, three 299 games, four 800 series with a 846 high and a high average of 234. This was his second consecutive all-city selection.

 

Nidiffer finished eighth in the MDUSBC Masters, was fifth from MDUSBC in the Michigan State Masters and tied for seventh from MDUSBC in the Michigan State Singles. In addition to his high average of 234 he recorded six 300 games, one 299 game and one 298 game and four 800 series including a high of 827.

 

Lang is making his fourth appearance on the team. He finished 13th in the MDUSBC Masters, tied for eighth in the MDUSBC Doubles with Kurt Pilon, was ninth from MDUSBC in Michigan State Doubles with Pilon, had five 300 games, one 299 game, six 800 series with a 837 high and a high average of 241.

 

Kurt Pilon of Warren (67), David Tulak of Taylor (65), Nicholas Wissinger IV of Utica (63), Duane Henderson of Detroit (63) and Randy Warnken of Clinton Township (61) were named to the second team men’s All-City. Newcomers Henderson and Warnken join veterans Pilon, Tulak and Wissinger.

 

Next week will be the women’s All-City team.
