USBC CONVENTION

The United States Bowling Congress annual convention was held in Reno recently.

The delegates, including 37 from the Metro Detroit USBC Association, spent two days in seminars and workshops before two days of meetings including voting on several critical issues and elections.

Seminars and workshops subjects included diversity, technology, youth bowling, rules, charities, coaching, marketing and websites.

In the legislative session delegates deliberated on six changes to league rules and 18 changes to bylaws.

All of the league rule changes were adopted with most giving leagues more flexibility in their league operations.

Controversial bylaw changes which would have forced local and state associations to merge by Aug. 1, 2011 and a national dues increase for the 2010-2011 season were rejected by the delegates.

Of the 18 proposed bylaw changes seven were adopted, 10 were rejected and one was ruled out of order.

Libbi Fletcher of Warren, president of the Metro Detroit USBC Association, was re-elected to a three-year term on the USBC Board of Directors garnering the most votes of the eight candidates on the first ballot.

All voting was done electronically for the first time as delegates were issued calculator size transmitters to cast their ballots on league rule, bylaws and elections. It was a very interesting look into the future of the convention.

The 2010 convention will also be held in Reno . The 2011 event will be held in late June in Grapevine, Tex. in conjunction with the Bowling Proprietors Association of America annual BowlExpo.
