BUDWEISER MICHIGAN MAJORS BOWLING ASSOCIATION

 

Jeff Roche of Dearborn qualified fourth for the stepladder finals of the Budweiser Michigan Majors event at Nortel Lanes in Monroe and proceeded to beat the field including top seed Abed Daher of Brownstown 248-212 to capture his seventh MMBA title.

 

Roche qualified with a nine-game total of 2,141. In the stepladder finals he beat Dave Tulak of Taylor 255-234, Mike Norris Jr. of Livonia 254-212 and Jeff Grego of Waterford Township 218-184 to advance to the championship match. Roche took home the top prize check of $1,000.

 

Daher settled for $500 after qualifying first for the stepladder finals with 2,185. Only having to win the one game for the title he came up short in the match against Roche.

 

Grego took home $400, Norris $350 and Tulak $300.

 

The next MMBA event will be the annual Doubles tournament at Lodge Lanes in Belleville .

PBA PREVIEW

 

Bowling fans take note. The Professional Bowlers Association invades Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park beginning today for a 10-day run with the pro-am and sweeper.

 

The PBA Regional Players Championship kicks off the run with eight games of qualifying on Saturday and Sunday followed by single elimination match play rounds for the top 64 players on Monday to crown the champion.

 

The grind begins on Wednesday, May 27 with five days of nine game blocks on each of the five demanding PBA lane patterns.

 

At the end the top eight players will earn exemptions for the 2009-2010 PBA season.

BOWLING ON TV

 

Wes Malott prevailed in week five of the PBA King of Bowling series with a 300-223 triumph over Parker Bohn III.

 

Malott began as the “king” in week one and beat every challenger that emerged during the five weeks. He also shot a perfect 300 game in week three over Walter Ray Williams Jr.

 

In the first season of the King of Bowling, Malott confirmed his PBA Player of the Year title by winning the crown.
